Nathan's No-No's

(What NOT to do when your researching your family history)

From Episode 1:
  • Family historians should NOT trust everything they find on the internet!  Unless you find a tree that has lots of good sources attached, you can’t take it as absolute truth.  Instead, use it as a clue to help you locate real facts using original records.
From Episode 2:
  • Genealogists do NOT need to search birth records first.  In fact, most genealogists search backwards (they search death records first and THEN research earlier events in a person's life).  Death certificates, cemetery records, and obituaries usually give information about a person's birth, too.
